Top officials of the Maharashtra legislature conducted a thorough review of the arrangements for the upcoming 2025 winter session on Sunday, expressing confidence in the state's readiness for the proceedings beginning Monday in Nagpur.
High-Level Review Meeting Directs Seamless Operations
The preparatory meeting, held at Vidhan Bhavan, was led by Legislative Council chairman Prof Ram Shinde and deputy chairperson Neelam Gorhe. The leaders directed all concerned departments to eliminate any potential for disruption during the crucial session. Senior officials in attendance included legislature secretaries Jitendra Bhole, Meghna Talekar, VG Athawale, and Shivdarshan Sathe.
Prof Shinde pressed for flawless management of essential services. He instructed authorities to "make sure there are no lapses in power supply, parking, or traffic management." Deputy chairperson Gorhe emphasised the critical need for uninterrupted communication and emergency preparedness. She urged officials to "keep telephone and internet services fully functional" and ensure that health, ambulance, and emergency teams remain on standby at all times.
Comprehensive Infrastructure and Security Checks Finalised
Departments were instructed to complete all logistical arrangements for ministers, MLCs, MLAs, and staff without delay. A series of checks and measures have been put in place:
- Power Supply: Comprehensive checks across all legislative buildings are complete, with backup manpower and generator systems ready.
- Parking & Traffic: Dedicated parking slots and traffic-regulation measures have been finalised to manage the increased vehicular movement.
- Security: Security agencies have assessed the inner and outer perimeters of Vidhan Bhavan, deploying adequate police units. Visitor entry will require mandatory passes, with Prof Shinde clarifying that preventing unauthorised access is the police's responsibility.
- Communication: Telecommunications infrastructure, including telephone, internet, and WiFi, has been secured for continuous operations.
City-Wide Readiness for Legislators and Press
Preparations extend beyond the Vidhan Bhavan complex to ensure comfort and safety across Nagpur.
Accommodation facilities throughout the city have undergone cleaning, maintenance, and repairs. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has positioned special teams for water supply, sanitation, and firefighting. Health centres with doctors, medicines, and ambulances are set up at key locations, and all buildings have completed mandatory fire audits.
For the press corps, 38 rooms in the Suyog building have been equipped with upgraded facilities, supported by a dedicated assistance team. Ambulances and additional vehicles will remain available round-the-clock at Nag Bhavan, Ravi Bhavan, and the MLA Hostel.
Following the review meeting, the presiding officers inspected both legislative Houses to verify that all technical and physical systems were operational. They also inspected newly constructed ministerial chambers and visited the ‘Lokrajya' rare-edition exhibition organised by the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations.
Both leaders expressed confidence that the session would proceed smoothly, attributing this to "efficient and meticulous planning" akin to previous years. They urged every department to maintain strict coordination at each stage, reinforcing that such detailed preparation is essential for the smooth functioning of the legislature.
