Opposition Members Clash Over Meeting Agenda

Members of the Opposition in the parliamentary committee on Home Affairs found themselves deeply divided during a crucial meeting held on Wednesday, November 13, 2025. The discord emerged over whether to discuss the recent Delhi blast and alleged intelligence failures or stick to the pre-decided agenda.

Demand for Blast Discussion Creates Rift

According to sources familiar with the proceedings, a significant section of Opposition members pushed strongly for an immediate discussion on the Delhi blast incident and what they termed as intelligence failure. However, other members within the same Opposition bloc preferred to follow the originally scheduled agenda, creating a clear division among the participants.

The meeting, which was chaired by BJP MP Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, ultimately did not feature any discussion on the sensitive topic of the blast. Despite the absence of immediate debate, Chairman Agrawal provided assurance to the members that a dedicated discussion on terrorism could be organized in the near future.

Dissatisfaction Among Opposition Faction

This compromise, however, failed to satisfy the group of Opposition members who had been adamant about addressing the blast issue immediately. Sources indicate that these members remained dissatisfied with the postponement of the discussion, emphasizing the urgency of examining the intelligence aspects surrounding the security incident.

The division within the Opposition ranks highlights the ongoing tensions in parliamentary proceedings concerning national security matters. The assurance of a future discussion on terrorism, while attempting to bridge differences, ultimately left a segment of the committee members wanting more immediate answers.

Delhi Police Seeks Image Improvement

In a related development, the Delhi Police headquarters had initiated efforts last month to enhance its public image and branding. The police administration had directed all Special Commissioners of Police to submit their suggestions for improving the force's public perception.

When the deadline passed without receiving the required suggestions, the Delhi Police spokesperson issued a polite yet pointed reminder last week. The communication emphasized the urgent nature of the requirement, indicating the importance the department places on improving its public standing.

This internal initiative comes at a time when security agencies face increased scrutiny following security incidents in the capital. The timing of the branding improvement exercise suggests a coordinated effort to address public concerns about law enforcement capabilities.
