The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested absconding former West Bengal MLA Saikot Molla, the prime suspect in the Bhangar bomb blast case. Molla, who had been on the run, was apprehended from the state's South 24 Parganas district following sustained searches by the NIA as part of its investigation into the case. The explosion involved a crude bomb that detonated during manufacturing ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections, resulting in the death of one bomb maker and injuries to others.
Fourth Accused Arrested
Molla is the fourth accused to be arrested in connection with the case. The NIA's investigation revealed that he was the key conspirator who directed the other accused to assemble the bomb. Additionally, Molla instructed the other accused to tamper with the scene of the explosion to obstruct the investigation. His arrest follows the recent apprehension of another accused who had transported the deceased and the injured in his Scorpio vehicle after the blast.
Ongoing Investigation
The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated to uncover any further conspiracy related to the case. The NIA took over the investigation from the state police on the orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India. The agency is examining all aspects of the case, including the procurement of materials and any potential links to broader criminal networks. The Bhangar bomb blast case highlights the challenges of illegal bomb manufacturing during the election period, and the NIA remains committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice.
