A doctor was allegedly beaten by unidentified men at a community health centre in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district on Friday after he declined to join the Cockroach Janta Party, police said. The incident occurred at the Majhwara Mod community health centre, where the doctor was on duty.
Details of the incident
According to police, a group of men entered the health centre and demanded that the doctor become a member of their political party, the Cockroach Janta Party. When the doctor refused, they allegedly assaulted him, leaving him with injuries. The attackers then fled the scene.
Police response
Senior police officials reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. A case has been registered against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The doctor has been sent for medical examination, and his statement has been recorded.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the health centre and surrounding areas to identify the suspects. They have assured strict action against the culprits.
Background of Cockroach Janta Party
The Cockroach Janta Party is a little-known political outfit in Uttar Pradesh. Local residents say the party has been trying to recruit members forcibly in some areas. Authorities have urged people to report any such incidents immediately.
Mau Superintendent of Police confirmed the assault and said an investigation is underway. He added that police are taking the matter seriously and will ensure the safety of healthcare workers.
The incident has sparked outrage among local medical associations, who have condemned the attack and demanded better security at health centres. They have also called for a thorough probe to prevent such incidents in the future.
