A tragic road accident in Bihar's Saran district claimed four lives and left six others injured on Tuesday. The incident occurred near the Chapra-Mashrakh road when a speeding truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw carrying passengers.
Accident Details
The auto-rickshaw was traveling from Mashrakh to Chapra when the truck, coming from the opposite direction, lost control and rammed into it. The impact was so severe that the auto-rickshaw was crushed, and the victims were trapped inside. Local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the police.
Casualties and Injuries
Four people died on the spot, including the auto-rickshaw driver. The deceased have been identified as Ram Vilas (35), Sunita Devi (40), and two others whose identities are yet to be confirmed. Six injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital, where three are reported to be in critical condition.
Police and rescue teams arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation. The injured were rushed to the Sadar Hospital in Chapra. Doctors said that some of the injured have been referred to Patna for advanced treatment.
Investigation Underway
Senior police officials visited the accident site and ordered an investigation. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police are examining the possibility of overspeeding as the cause of the accident.
Previous Accidents
This stretch of road has been notorious for accidents due to poor road conditions and reckless driving. Locals have demanded speed breakers and better road infrastructure to prevent such incidents in the future.
The state government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and free treatment for the injured. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the incident and directed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured.
