Homemade food carries a distinct aroma and emotional essence, especially when prepared by a mother. Bollywood star Deepika Padukone recently experienced this when she received homemade Puran Poli from a fan's mother, and her gracious acceptance moved the mother to tears of joy.
Deepika Padukone's Meet and Greet
In January 2026, actress Deepika Padukone hosted a meet and greet event to celebrate her birthday with fans and well-wishers. During the event, she cut a three-tier brown cake and posed with attendees. While many influencers and content creators shared their joyful moments, one particular interaction shared by the handle @zadmayur went viral. It captured the emotional moment when his mother met Deepika and the actress's heartfelt gesture left her crying with happiness.
What Exactly Happened?
Taking to social media, the fan recounted Deepika's warm gesture toward his mother. According to him, Deepika held his mother's hand and invited her to sit beside her. In a reel post with over 3 million views, he expressed gratitude: 'This time, I took my mom along with me. Staying with me, she also slowly became a fan of Deepika. When I told her that we were going to meet Deepika, she said, "Chal, khota bolu nakos" (Don't lie), "Evdhya vela bhetalas, mala kadhi nahi nelas" (You met her so many times, but never took me along). But when she actually met Deepika, she was completely stunned.'
He also shared that his mother was in tears when she held the actress's hand. Deepika thanked her for the special gift of handmade Puran Poli. 'She walked away with tears in her eyes — and honestly, every fan can relate to that moment, the emotions we go through after meeting a diva like her,' the fan added.
What This Teaches Us
For Deepika, this may have been one of many fan moments involving handmade gifts. However, her actions underscore the importance of gratitude: recognizing and valuing the effort, time, and thought someone invests in us. By accepting the tiffin, she demonstrated humility, showing that receiving kindness gracefully is as important as giving it. Such acts nurture emotional connections, build trust, and foster a culture of appreciation in daily life. How often do you show gratitude to those around you? Share your thoughts.
How to Make Classic Puran Poli at Home
Ingredients: 1 cup chana dal, 1 cup jaggery, 1/2 tsp cardamom powder, a pinch of nutmeg, 1.5 cups whole wheat flour, 2 tbsp oil or ghee, a pinch of salt, water, and ghee for cooking.
Method: Wash and pressure cook chana dal until soft but not mushy. Drain excess water and mash or grind the dal. Cook it in a pan with jaggery on low heat, stirring continuously until the mixture leaves the sides of the pan. Add cardamom and nutmeg. Let it cool. Meanwhile, knead dough using flour, salt, water, and oil/ghee. Cover and let it rest for 20 minutes. Divide dough into small balls, fill each with 2 tbsp of filling, and roll out parathas. Heat a tawa and cook the poli on both sides, applying ghee until golden spots appear. Serve hot.
