In a significant step towards women empowerment, construction of a 500-bed working women's hostel has commenced in Gorakhpur under the Chief Minister Shramjeevi Mahila Chhatravas Yojana. The project, located in Khuthan of Chargawan block, is being developed at a cost of Rs 47.38 crore and is slated for completion by September 2027.
Project Details and Facilities
The hostel, spanning 6,640 square metres, is being constructed by the women and child welfare department. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to formally inaugurate the construction work shortly. Soil testing, survey work, and piling activities are already underway at the site, according to officials.
Officials from the Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd, the executing agency, stated that the building will feature stilt parking and eight floors above it. The facility will comprise 250 rooms with single, double, and triple-bed configurations.
Financial and Safety Aspects
Project manager Neeraj Gupta confirmed that the first instalment of Rs 16.58 crore has been released from the sanctioned amount. The hostel will be equipped with CCTV surveillance, fire safety systems, a crèche, gymnasium, auditorium, laundry, canteen, departmental store, and vehicle parking. Rainwater harvesting and horticulture are also part of the plan. Women wardens, guards, and housekeeping staff will be deployed to ensure safety and smooth operations.
Statewide Initiative
The state government is constructing similar hostels in seven districts, including Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Agra, and Meerut. Separately, the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation is building a 75-bed working women's hostel near Sahara Estate under the Mukhyamantri Vaishvik Nagaroday Yojana at a cost of Rs 18.08 crore.
