A tragic incident unfolded in Muzaffarpur district on Saturday, where a 68-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his son after he intervened to stop him from thrashing his grandson. The incident took place at Sanathi village under Garha OP in the Bochaha police station area.
Sequence of Events
According to police reports, the accused, Manoj Sahni, was beating his son for refusing to go to school. The elderly man, Mahesh Sahni, stepped in to stop the assault. Family members revealed that the child had persistently refused to attend school despite repeated persuasion, which enraged Manoj, leading him to beat the child mercilessly.
Hearing the child's cries, Mahesh rushed to the spot and tried to intervene. He pleaded with his son, saying, 'Don't beat the child so brutally, let him go,' while stepping between them. Enraged by the intervention, Manoj allegedly picked up a bamboo stick and attacked his father. He then lifted a brick and struck Mahesh on the head, causing severe injuries.
Medical Emergency and Death
Mahesh collapsed at the scene and was immediately rushed to Shri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH). Doctors advised a CT scan, but the family could not arrange it in time due to financial constraints, according to Mahesh's younger son, Dheeraj Kumar. 'His condition deteriorated due to delayed diagnosis and treatment, and he died during treatment,' he added.
Police Action
Town SDPO-2 Vinita Sinha confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Manoj based on the statement of Mahesh's wife, Nagina Devi. 'The body has been sent for postmortem. The accused is absconding, and raids are being conducted to arrest him,' she said.
