Rescue and Investigation

Local villagers rushed to the scene and alerted the police. A team from the local police station arrived promptly and sent the bodies for postmortem examination. The injured were taken to the Community Health Centre in Lakhimpur, where doctors declared them brought dead.

Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police, visited the site to assess the situation. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding and poor visibility due to fog may have contributed to the collision.

The highway has been a site of frequent accidents, and locals demand better road safety measures, including speed breakers and improved lighting.

Government Response

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and to take strict action against those responsible for the accident.

Road accidents remain a major concern in India, with thousands of lives lost annually due to reckless driving and poor road infrastructure. This incident highlights the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better road engineering.
