Eight people were killed in a tragic head-on collision between a truck and a pickup van on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road in Punjab early on Saturday morning. The accident took place near the village of Khara, about 10 kilometers from Ferozepur city, when the pickup van, which was carrying farm laborers, collided with an oncoming truck.
Details of the Accident
According to police officials, the pickup van was heading towards Ferozepur from Fazilka when the driver lost control and rammed into the truck coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the van was completely mangled, and eight occupants died on the spot. Three others were critically injured and have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Victims and Rescue Operation
The deceased were all farm laborers, aged between 25 and 45 years, who were on their way to work in the fields. The injured have been identified as residents of nearby villages. Rescue teams, including police and local volunteers, reached the spot and helped extricate the bodies from the wreckage. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Senior police officers from Ferozepur district visited the accident site and ordered an investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding and poor visibility due to fog might have contributed to the crash. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.
