Eight people were killed in two separate road accidents in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Sunday. The incidents took place on different roads late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
First Accident: Car Overturns into Ditch
In the first accident, five people died when their car overturned into a ditch near the village of Mirzapur under the Jalalabad police station area. The victims were identified as residents of the same village. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then plunged into the roadside ditch, killing all five occupants on the spot.
Second Accident: Truck Hits Motorcycle
In the second incident, three people were killed when a speeding truck hit a motorcycle near the town of Tilhar. The deceased were traveling on the motorcycle when the truck collided with them from behind. All three died at the scene. The truck driver fled after the accident, and a search is underway to apprehend him.
Police Response and Investigation
Police reached both sites and sent the bodies for postmortem. Investigations have been initiated to determine the exact causes of the accidents. Authorities have urged locals to follow traffic rules and drive cautiously to prevent such mishaps.
The series of accidents underscores the growing concern over road safety in Uttar Pradesh, where thousands die annually in road crashes due to speeding, reckless driving, and poor road conditions.
