Yogi Government Announces Major 80% Honorarium Increase for Shiksha Mitras

In a significant pre-Holi gesture, the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an 80% hike in the honorarium for Shiksha Mitras serving in the state's basic education sector. This decision, revealed on Saturday, has been met with widespread joy and appreciation from teachers' organizations across the region.

Details of the Honorarium Enhancement

According to the official announcement, Shiksha Mitras will receive an additional monthly honorarium increase of Rs 8,000 starting from the first month of the new financial year in April 2026. This substantial raise marks a pivotal moment for these educators, who have long advocated for better compensation.

Basic Shiksha Adhikari (Prayagraj) Anil Kumar provided specific data, noting that there are a total of 2,934 Shiksha Mitras in the Prayagraj district alone. Of these, 1,804 are affiliated with the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, while 1,130 operate under the Basic Education scheme. Following the new policy, these educators will collectively receive an additional benefit of Rs 23,472,000 per month, significantly boosting their financial stability.

Impact on Shiksha Mitras and Their Families

The honorarium hike is expected to have a profound impact on the lives of Shiksha Mitras and their families. Vandana Srivastava, a Shiksha Mitra at Sehuda Primary School in Jasra Block, Prayagraj, expressed her gratitude, stating that the decision will greatly improve her family's economic situation. "With the government's new inter-district transfer system, I will now be able to leave my maternal home and live with my family in my in-laws' home in Amethi," she shared, highlighting the personal benefits beyond just financial gain.

Poonam Patel, a Shiksha Mitra at the Rampur Khanpur Dandiya Composite School, echoed these sentiments, calling it the greatest gift from CM Yogi not only for Holi but for Diwali as well. "Now, we will be able to spend more on our families' education and overall well-being," she added, emphasizing the broader societal implications of the hike.

Reactions from Teachers' Organizations

Teachers' organizations have warmly welcomed this decision. Sudhesh Pandey, general secretary of the Teachers' Self-Care Team, extended his thanks to the chief minister for fulfilling the long-standing demand for an honorarium increase. "After adjustment, Shiksha Mitra teachers used to receive the same salary as regular teachers, so this further increase in honorarium is a wise and much-needed decision," he remarked, underscoring the fairness and timeliness of the move.

The announcement has sparked a wave of optimism among educators, who see it as a step towards recognizing their crucial role in the basic education framework. With the honorarium hike set to take effect in 2026, Shiksha Mitras across Uttar Pradesh can look forward to enhanced financial security and improved quality of life, reinforcing the government's commitment to supporting educational staff in the state.
