Bengaluru Traffic Tragedy: Couple Dies While Chasing Their Patient's Ambulance on Scooter
Bengaluru couple dies chasing patient's ambulance

A routine hospital visit turned into an unimaginable tragedy for a Bengaluru family on Wednesday night, highlighting the deadly risks on city roads even during emergency medical transport.

The horrifying incident occurred near the Hebbal flyover when a couple, desperately following an ambulance carrying the husband's ailing mother, met with a fatal accident that claimed both their lives.

The Fateful Journey

Ramesh (35) and his wife Nethravathi (32) were accompanying Ramesh's mother, who required urgent medical attention, to a private hospital in an ambulance. While the elderly patient traveled safely in the ambulance with its sirens blaring, the couple followed closely behind on their scooter.

Tragedy struck around 9:30 PM when a speeding truck collided with their two-wheeler near the Hebbal flyover junction. The impact was devastating - both Ramesh and Nethravathi suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency Within an Emergency

What makes this incident particularly heartbreaking is that the ambulance driver, unaware of the tragedy unfolding behind him, continued toward the hospital with the patient. The couple, who were ensuring their mother-in-law reached medical care safely, never made it to see her admitted.

Police officials from the Hebbal traffic station confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving behind a scene of devastation and two lives cut short.

Broader Safety Concerns

This tragic incident raises serious questions about road safety protocols during medical emergencies in Indian cities. The couple's desperate attempt to stay close to their loved one's ambulance reflects the anxiety many families face during critical health situations.

The Hebbal flyover area, known for its heavy traffic flow and complex merging patterns, has witnessed several accidents in the past. This latest tragedy adds to the growing concern about road safety infrastructure in Bengaluru's high-traffic zones.

As investigations continue and authorities search for the absconding truck driver, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life on our roads and the urgent need for improved safety measures during emergency medical transport.
