The district collector's offices in Salem and Erode received bomb threats on Tuesday, marking the fourth such incident in Salem this year. The threats prompted immediate response from local police and bomb disposal experts.
Salem Collector Office Threat
In Salem, the threat led to intensive checks by city police and bomb disposal teams, assisted by sniffer dog Ruby. Officers searched multiple areas of the collectorate, including rooms that had been closed for security reasons. All departmental offices were thoroughly examined.
Officials noted that the Salem collector's office has been receiving bomb threats for several months, primarily via email, with over three threats reported this year alone. Police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the latest threat.
Erode Collector Office Threat
In a similar incident, the Erode district collector's office received an email claiming a bomb had been planted and would detonate by evening. Employees immediately alerted authorities, prompting Erode south police and a sniffer dog team to conduct searches across the collectorate using metal detectors. This is the second bomb threat at the Erode collector's office this year.
Authorities are taking these threats seriously and have stepped up security measures at both locations. Further investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators.
