In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh's Siddharthnagar district, a young boy lost his life after the stairs of a water tank collapsed on Wednesday. The accident occurred in the Laxmipur area under the Bansi Kotwali police jurisdiction. Two other individuals who were trapped were rescued by an army helicopter and airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Details of the Incident
The water tank, located in a rural part of Siddharthnagar, was undergoing maintenance when the stairs gave way. The deceased, identified as 12-year-old Ravi Kumar, was standing on the stairs when they suddenly collapsed, causing him to fall from a height. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The two others, who were also on the stairs, sustained serious injuries and were trapped under debris.
Rescue Operation
Local authorities were alerted immediately, and a rescue operation was launched. Due to the remote location and the nature of the collapse, an army helicopter was called in to assist. The helicopter successfully lifted the two injured individuals, who were then rushed to a trauma center in Gorakhpur. Their condition is reported to be stable.
The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that the structure may have been weak due to lack of maintenance. The water tank had been constructed several years ago and was used to supply water to nearby villages.
Community in Shock
The local community is in shock over the incident. Villagers gathered at the site, expressing grief and anger over the lack of safety measures. They demanded compensation for the family of the deceased and strict action against those responsible for the maintenance of the tank.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh. He also assured that the injured would receive the best possible medical care. The incident has raised questions about the safety of public infrastructure in rural areas.
