A devastating road accident in Gujarat's Sabarkantha district has resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries to four others. The incident occurred when a bus collided head-on with a van on a state highway near the town of Himmatnagar.
Details of the Accident
The collision took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning. According to local police, the bus was traveling from Ahmedabad to Abu Road when it crashed into the van coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the van was completely mangled, with several occupants trapped inside.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Two of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. The deceased include four men and two women, all believed to be passengers in the van.
Police Investigation
Police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that the bus driver may have lost control due to overspeeding or a mechanical failure. Authorities are also checking for any negligence on the part of the drivers.
Senior police officials visited the accident site and the hospital to assess the situation. They have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to provide compensation to the victims' families under the state government's road accident relief scheme.

Meanwhile, the district administration has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured. The bus driver has been taken into custody for questioning.
