A case has been registered at Premnagar police station against the director of a prominent private engineering institute in Dehradun in connection with alleged irregularities in the Centre's minority scholarship scheme. The action follows a complaint filed by Dehradun district minorities welfare officer JS Rawat after a central probe found discrepancies in 95 institutes across the country, including five in Uttarakhand, during the period of 2021 to 2023.
Central Investigation Leads to Complaint
Investigating officer SI Vijay Pratap Rahi stated that the complaint was lodged on the directions of the central authorities. “The Centre directed state minorities welfare departments to file complaints against institutes where discrepancies were found in the scholarship programme between 2021 and 2023,” Rahi explained. Police said the institute’s management has been accused of cheating, forgery, and other offences linked to the alleged irregularities.
Legal Action Under IPC Sections
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the institute’s director under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including:
- Section 420 (cheating)
- Section 409 (criminal breach of trust)
- Section 467 (forgery of valuable securities)
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited. The case highlights the government's crackdown on misuse of minority scholarship funds.
