In a significant push to accelerate civic improvements across the city, Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla conducted a thorough review of all ongoing ward development works on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Focus on Timely and Transparent Execution
Chairing a high-level meeting with councillors, the Chief Engineer, and senior officers of the Municipal Corporation, Mayor Babla underscored that the top priority is to ensure timely completion, transparency, and tangible results in every ward. The meeting centered on assessing projects funded under the Rs 25–50 lakh allocations designated for each ward, evaluating their current status, quality, and the overall pace of infrastructure and civic upgrades.
Directives for Proactive Project Monitoring
The Mayor issued clear instructions to officials to fast-track all pending works. She specifically highlighted essential services including road repairs, drainage systems, sanitation, street lighting, and water supply. Emphasizing a citizen-centric approach, she directed all departments to adopt a proactive strategy.
To ensure strict adherence to timelines and quality, a new monitoring framework was announced. Weekly progress reviews, regular on-site inspections, and the submission of detailed follow-up reports have been made mandatory to track project performance effectively.
Collaboration for a Better Chandigarh
During the meeting, councillors provided detailed, ward-wise updates on both completed and ongoing projects, bringing forth the progress made and the challenges faced on the ground. The Chief Engineer supplemented this with a technical overview, assuring that quality standards are being vigilantly monitored.
Mayor Babla stressed that accountability and seamless coordination between the engineering, health, and sanitation wings are non-negotiable for efficient execution and public satisfaction. She reiterated that the overarching goal is sustainable and inclusive development that reflects the vision of a cleaner, better-connected, and more livable Chandigarh, ultimately strengthening public confidence in the Municipal Corporation's work.
