Chandigarh MC Clears 47 Encroachments in Major Park Cleanup Drive
Chandigarh MC issues 47 challans in anti-encroachment drive

The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh launched a decisive crackdown on unauthorized commercial setups occupying public parks and green belts across the city. The special anti-encroachment drive, conducted on Saturday, targeted structures that have been obstructing pathways and causing inconvenience, particularly to morning walkers and residents.

Targeted Action Against Unauthorized Vendors

The operation was carried out peacefully between 7 am and 12 pm, focusing on areas outside major parks. The teams specifically removed temporary encroachments like juice stalls, fruit sellers, and coconut rehris (carts). These unauthorized stalls were identified as primary sources of congestion, littering, and safety issues for the public using the green spaces during early hours.

47 Challans Issued to Violators

As a direct result of the drive, the civic body officials issued 47 challans (fines) to the individuals and vendors found violating the norms. The action underscores the MC's commitment to reclaiming public spaces and ensuring they remain accessible and clean for all citizens.

Administration Transfers Park Maintenance in Dhanas

In a related development for the city's green cover, the Chandigarh administration has made a key decision regarding park upkeep. The responsibility for maintaining the neighbourhood parks in the Dhanas rehabilitation colony has now been transferred to the Municipal Corporation. This move is expected to streamline maintenance and ensure better upkeep of these community spaces.

The Saturday drive highlights a growing effort by the Chandigarh authorities to tackle the persistent problem of encroachments in vital lung spaces of the city. By removing these obstructions, the MC aims to restore the intended purpose of parks and green belts—providing a peaceful, safe, and clean environment for recreation and leisure to the residents of Chandigarh.
