Chennai: Several areas in Chennai will experience a 24-hour disruption in piped drinking water supply for two days as Metrowater undertakes a major pipeline interconnection project. The disruption will affect localities including Kolathur, Jawahar Nagar, Sembium, Ayanavaram, Perambur, Korattur, Anna Nagar West Extension, Villivakkam, and Anna Nagar West, which fall within three zones—Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Ambattur, and Anna Nagar.
Details of the Disruption
Water supply will remain suspended from 10 am on June 13 to 10 am on June 14. This suspension is necessary to facilitate the interconnection of a central main water pipeline at the Water Canal Road Junction on Jawaharlal Nehru 200 Feet Road in Anna Nagar Zone and at the Lucas TVS Wheels India factory junction near the Padi flyover.
Reason for the Work
Metrowater officials stated that the work is part of efforts to strengthen the city’s water distribution network and improve supply reliability in the long run. Residents have been advised to store adequate drinking water in advance to avoid shortage during the shutdown period.
Alternative Arrangements
To meet emergency requirements, Metrowater has arranged tanker services under its ‘Dial for Water’ scheme. Residents can book water tankers through the board’s website. Officials added that water supply through tankers to areas without piped connections, low-pressure localities, public water tanks, and street taps will continue without interruption.
