Punjab Child Rights Commission Vice-Chairperson Inspects Amritsar Childcare Facilities

Ruchi Bawa, the Vice-Chairperson of the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (PSCPCR), undertook a comprehensive review of multiple childcare institutions in Amritsar. This official visit aimed to evaluate the functioning and implementation of child welfare policies across government and non-government homes, ensuring the safety, dignity, and overall well-being of resident children.

Assessing Ground-Level Challenges and Policy Enforcement

As part of the commission's ongoing efforts to strengthen child protection systems, Bawa held detailed deliberations with Dalwinderjit Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar. Discussions focused on policy enforcement, inter-departmental coordination, and the effective execution of child welfare measures at the district level. The visit sought to identify progress, understand operational challenges, and address gaps in service delivery for vulnerable children.

Inspection of Key Childcare Homes and Infrastructure Review

During the inspections, Bawa visited several prominent childcare institutions, including the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society, Community Home for Mentally Retarded (Girls), Central Khalsa Orphanage, State After-Care Home, and Special Home on Majitha Road. She meticulously reviewed infrastructure, living conditions, educational arrangements, healthcare services, and compliance with prescribed child protection norms. Interactions with staff and caretakers were conducted, with necessary directions issued to enhance service quality and address deficiencies.

Collaboration with Child Welfare Committee and District Officials

The visit was attended by key officials, including MK Sharma and Rupinder Kaur, Members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Amritsar, and Taranjeet Singh, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO). They accompanied the vice-chairperson during inspections and participated in discussions aimed at bolstering district-level child welfare mechanisms. At the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society, Bawa interacted with Yogesh Suri, Chief Administrative Officer, and Gulshan, Medical and Psychiatric Welfare Officer-cum-Child Adoption In-charge, reviewing services for children requiring care, treatment, and rehabilitation.

This initiative underscores the commission's commitment to proactive oversight and improvement of childcare systems in Punjab, with a focus on ensuring that institutions adhere to legal standards and provide a nurturing environment for children in need.
