Congress Corporators Demand Fire Sub-Stations in West Nagpur

Nagpur: Citing growing urban expansion and rising safety concerns in West Nagpur, Congress corporators on Tuesday demanded the establishment of two independent and modern fire sub-stations at KT Nagar and Gorewada. A detailed memorandum in this regard was submitted to mayor Neeta Thakre.

Meeting Highlights

During the meeting, discussions were also held with officials of the fire department in the presence of ruling party leader Narendra Borkar and Leader of Opposition Sanjay Mahakalkar. Fire department officials reportedly supported the proposal, considering the rapid growth and increasing emergency response requirements in the western parts of the city. Currently, the Civil Lines fire station alone comes under the West Nagpur Assembly constituency.

Areas Affected

The memorandum highlighted that several localities, including Surendragadh, Friends Colony, Jagruti Colony, Makardhokda, Ganga Nagar, Jagdish Nagar, Gittikhadan, Dabha, Gorewada, Godhani, and Zingabai Takli, have witnessed a sharp rise in residential colonies, commercial establishments, and newly developed areas. With population density increasing steadily, delays in emergency response during fire incidents and accidents are becoming a serious concern for residents.

Current Challenges

At present, the entire region is largely dependent on the main fire station at Civil Lines, resulting in longer response times during emergencies. The memorandum stressed that increasing high-rise buildings, congested internal roads, and expanding habitation make it essential to establish dedicated fire sub-stations equipped with modern machinery, fire tenders, and adequate manpower.

Positive Response

Speaking on the occasion, corporators Shailesh Pandey, Ketan Thakre, and Abhijeet Jha said the administration and civic office-bearers responded positively to the proposal and expressed hope that the required legal procedures and approvals would be completed soon. They said the two proposed stations would significantly improve safety and emergency preparedness in the rapidly expanding western parts of Nagpur.
