The Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat has rallied behind Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, writing to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to ensure the officer completes his tenure. Mundhe, known for frequent transfers, is serving his 25th posting in 21 years. Since assuming office, he has launched a crackdown on illegal drug trade, adulterated food, and other irregularities, registering multiple FIRs across Maharashtra within a month.
Consumer body's support amid FDA action
Amid the FDA's intensified actions, the consumer body suspects growing pressure from traders and has urged the CM not to transfer Mundhe prematurely. National executive committee member Vijay Sagar stated, "Mundhe's actions favor consumers. It is the people's right to get pure food, and he is ensuring that. We support his actions. Besides writing to the government, we will start a signature campaign to gather public support."
Previous support for Mundhe
Members recalled a similar letter written in July 2017 when Mundhe was Chairman and Managing Director of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). Pune unit president Vilas Lele said, "Mundhe had started work similarly to bring discipline to the transport body. We wrote to the CM then, but he was transferred within months. This time, we hope the CM will support him."
