Crime Against Women Declines by 38% in Haryana in 2025
In a significant development, Haryana has recorded a 38% decline in crimes against women in 2025 compared to the previous year, according to official data released by the state police. The data reveals a substantial drop in cases of rape, molestation, domestic violence, and other offenses against women.
Key Statistics
As per the report, the total number of crimes against women registered in 2025 stood at 12,456, down from 20,090 in 2024. Rape cases declined by 32%, from 1,200 to 816. Molestation cases saw a 40% reduction, falling from 4,500 to 2,700. Domestic violence cases dropped by 35%, from 3,200 to 2,080. Additionally, cases under the Dowry Prohibition Act decreased by 28%, from 1,500 to 1,080.
Reasons Behind the Decline
The Haryana Police attributed the decline to several measures, including increased patrolling, installation of CCTV cameras in public places, and the establishment of women help desks in every police station. The state government also launched awareness campaigns and strengthened the legal framework to ensure swift justice. Special investigation teams were formed to handle sensitive cases, and the police worked closely with NGOs and community leaders to encourage reporting and support victims.
Government's Response
Haryana Chief Minister praised the efforts, stating, 'The reduction in crimes against women is a result of our zero-tolerance policy and the dedicated work of the police force. We will continue to implement strict measures to ensure the safety of women in the state.' The Director General of Police added that the force would maintain vigilance and further improve response times.
Challenges Remain
Despite the positive trend, activists caution that underreporting remains a concern. They stress the need for continued efforts to create a safe environment and encourage victims to come forward. The police have assured that all complaints are taken seriously and that victim support services are readily available.
Overall, the 38% decline marks a significant achievement for Haryana in its fight against gender-based violence, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
