The incident took place in the Bahannabigha area under the English Bazar police station limits. According to locals, the children had entered a mango orchard when one of them noticed an object resembling a mango lying on the ground. As the child picked it up and attempted to place it in a bag, the object exploded, as reported by PTI.

Police confirmed that the object was a crude bomb. One of the injured children, identified as Dip Roy, a Class 7 student, suffered serious injuries and was admitted to the Malda Medical College and Hospital. A probe has been launched to determine how the explosive material ended up in the orchard.
