Dehradun Sets Up Special Cell for Fast Land Dispute Resolution
Dehradun Special Cell for Land Dispute Resolution

The district administration in Dehradun has announced the formation of a special cell dedicated to the swift resolution of land disputes, which have emerged as the most common grievance raised during weekly public hearings. District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan stated, "Officials have been directed to form a special cell at the district level to track the number of such disputes received and how many we are able to resolve on a monthly or quarterly basis."

Scope of the Special Cell

According to officials, the cell will handle cases related to land demarcation, possession disputes, encroachments, tenant issues, loan payments, and other revenue matters. The administration also plans to digitize the grievance redressal process. Chauhan added, "Complaints that we receive during the resolution meeting will be uploaded on the CM helpline so that they can be continuously tracked and resolved."

Samadhan Diwas: Revamped Weekly Hearings

The weekly hearing, previously known as a 'janata darbar', will now be held every Monday as 'Samadhan Diwas'. During the latest session at Rishiparna Auditorium, 132 individuals approached the district administration with grievances ranging from land disputes to financial assistance, loan waivers, roads, public pathways, and pedestrian bridges. The DM also reviewed health-related concerns and directed officials to prepare a database of pregnant women living in remote villages lacking road connectivity. He instructed the chief medical officer to regularly monitor such cases and ensure that women with high-risk pregnancies are shifted to hospitals on time. Hospitals have also been asked to introduce a token system to reduce waiting time for patients.

Individual Complaints Addressed

Several individual complaints were taken up during the hearing. An 89-year-old ex-serviceman alleged that his tenant was refusing to vacate his property and was issuing threats, prompting the DM to order police intervention. Another elderly resident complained of encroachment on private land and sought administrative action.

Infrastructure and Transport Proposals

The administration also directed departments to examine demands for ambulance services in tribal regions such as Chakrata, Kwansi, and Lakhamandal, and to explore the feasibility of introducing public transport or electric bus services on the Dehradun-Doiwala-Bhaniyawala-Jolly-Thano route.
