Delhi Fire: Three Dead in Tughlakabad Blaze

A devastating fire erupted in a residential building in southeast Delhi's Tughlakabad Extension area during the early hours of Friday, resulting in at least three fatalities, as reported by news agency ANI. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) personnel successfully rescued six individuals, who were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital with the aid of the Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS). Officials confirmed that earlier, at least eight injured persons had been evacuated from the building and taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for medical treatment.

Details of the Incident

The fire broke out in a building located in Gali No 1, near Naya Tara Apartment on Madhyam Marg, which falls under the jurisdiction of Okhla Fire Station-1 (OKH-1). DFS Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Yashwant Singh Meena stated that the building comprises a ground floor and five upper floors, situated in a narrow lane, which posed significant challenges for rescue and firefighting operations.

Emergency Response

According to the fire department, multiple calls reporting the blaze and people trapped inside the building were received between 2:35 am and 2:37 am. In response, the department dispatched three water tenders, two water bowsers, one breathing support unit, and a Quick Response Vehicle to the scene. An additional water tender-cum-light fire unit was later deployed following repeated distress calls.

Preliminary information from the fire department suggested that the blaze originated from vehicles parked inside the building. Firefighters initiated rescue efforts after receiving reports that several residents were trapped. At 3:45 am, officials announced that the fire had been brought under control. The DFS issued a stop message at 4 am, indicating that firefighting operations had been completed. However, rescue efforts continued even after the flames were extinguished.

Final Rescue Phase

During the final phase of the operation, firefighters rescued one more person from the building, bringing the total number of individuals rescued by DFS personnel to six. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
