Delhi Traffic Cop Saves Woman from Truck Accident

New Delhi: A traffic police officer averted a major accident and saved a woman’s life in north Delhi’s Azadpur Chowk on Thursday, while also taking strict action against a truck driver for multiple violations.

Incident Details

The incident occurred around 4:27 PM when the traffic inspector of Model Town Circle was leading a team during a special drive against e-rickshaw violations and encroachments. During the operation, the officer noticed a truck making a U-turn in a rash and negligent manner.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian, identified as Afreen, a resident of Wazirpur Industrial Area, was crossing the road and unknowingly walked into the path of the turning vehicle. The truck driver failed to notice her, creating a dangerous situation.

The officer noticed the imminent danger and rushed forward, pulling the woman to safety just in time to prevent a fatal collision.

Action Against Truck Driver

Following the rescue, the truck was intercepted and the driver, identified as Liyakat, was found to be in violation of several provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police said he was booked for dangerous driving, driving without a valid licence, and violations related to registration and permit. The vehicle also had a defective rear number plate and a concealed registration number.

A challan was issued and the truck was impounded. Officials said the vehicle has been deposited at the Narela pit.
