Delhi Traffic Disruptions at Ashram Chowk and Azadpur Mandi for Weeks
Delhi Traffic Disruptions at Ashram Chowk, Azadpur Mandi

New Delhi: Commuters in Delhi are set to face traffic disruptions at two key locations over the coming weeks, with a stretch of Ring Road near Ashram Chowk closed for three to four days due to emergency pipeline repairs and ongoing drainage and construction work around Azadpur Mandi expected to impact traffic until mid-July.

Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories for both corridors, warning of congestion and diversions.

Ashram Chowk Closure

The immediate impact is at Ashram Chowk, where the Ring Road carriageway between Maharani Bagh and Ashram has been shut for repairs to a damaged 1,200-millimeter-diameter Delhi Jal Board pipeline. Restrictions are likely to remain in place for three to four days.

Traffic movement is expected to be affected on the stretch from Sarai Kale Khan towards Ashram Chowk, from the DND Flyway towards Ashram, and at the merging point of CV Raman Marg with Ring Road. Commuters have been advised to avoid the area and plan their journeys in advance.

Motorists travelling from Sarai Kale Khan, ITO, DND Noida and Mayur Vihar towards Faridabad have been advised to take the Ashram Flyover and divert via Captain Gaur Marg, Okhla Mandi Road, Modi Mill Flyover and Mathura Road. Those approaching from the DND Flyway can use the Barapullah Elevated Corridor or Ashram Flyover, while traffic from C.V. Raman Marg has been diverted via Mata Mandir Marg and Mathura Road.

Azadpur Mandi Construction

Meanwhile, in north Delhi, commuters are likely to face prolonged congestion. Drainage excavation and construction work, near Azadpur Mandi, scheduled from June 16 to July 15, will affect traffic daily from 6 am on GT Karnal Road between Mahendra Park and Adarsh Nagar Metro Station.

Heavy machinery and ongoing work are expected to slow traffic around Azadpur Mandi, Adarsh Nagar, Mahendra Park and Mukarba Chowk. Vehicles travelling from Mukarba Chowk Bypass towards Azadpur and Adarsh Nagar have been diverted via Outer Ring Road, Mukundpur and Arihant Marg. Traffic from Jahangirpuri towards Adarsh Nagar can take Shah Alam Bandh Road and proceed via Road No. 51 and Arihant Marg towards Azadpur Chowk.

The traffic police has urged commuters to use public transport where possible, follow diversion signage and factor in additional travel time while passing through the affected areas.
