In a significant move to enhance cleanliness and public health, the Dhanbad Zila Parishad (district council) and the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation have forged a special partnership to strengthen sanitation efforts across the district, with a focus on rural and semi-urban regions.
Joint Initiative Targets Garbage Hotspots
Under this collaborative initiative, garbage heaps that have remained unattended for years in areas under the zila parishad's jurisdiction will now be cleared by the municipal corporation, utilizing its manpower and modern sanitation resources. As part of the campaign, approximately 18 tonnes of waste were removed on Friday from Harina Chowk in Baghmara block.
Deputy Development Commissioner Sunny Raj stated that the initiative was launched after authorities observed that several rural pockets were struggling with mounting waste due to inadequate sanitation infrastructure and resources. The zila parishad lacked sufficient vehicles, equipment, and sanitation workers to carry out regular garbage disposal, leading to waste accumulation in many localities.
“The collaboration aims to ensure that every part of Dhanbad, including rural and semi-urban areas, receives proper cleanliness services,” he said.
Deployment of Resources and Special Campaign
Officials confirmed that the municipal corporation will now deploy dumpers, waste-lifting vehicles, and sanitation workers in areas identified as garbage hotspots under the zila parishad. A special cleanliness campaign will also be conducted in villages and roadside settlements where waste disposal has become a major concern.
Residents of many affected areas have long complained about foul odors, unhygienic surroundings, and the increasing risk of diseases caused by uncollected garbage. Authorities believe this new partnership will significantly improve living conditions and help create a cleaner environment.
DDC Sunny Raj urged residents to dispose of waste only at designated places and to cooperate with sanitation workers.
