As the Festival of Lights approaches, the Punjab Police have rolled out an extensive traffic management blueprint to tackle the anticipated gridlock in Mohali, Kharar, and Zirakpur. With Diwali celebrations expected to draw massive crowds to markets and religious sites, authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
Strategic Traffic Diversions and Route Planning
The traffic police have identified critical choke points and implemented strategic diversions across the tri-city area. Key market zones and temple premises will see regulated vehicle flow with dedicated entry and exit points to prevent the typical festival-time snarls.
Mohali Focus Areas: Phase 7, Sohana road, and other commercial hubs will have special traffic teams deployed round-the-clock. Heavy vehicles might face timed restrictions during peak shopping hours.
Kharar Management: The busy Kharar-Landran road and main market vicinity will have increased police presence to manage the influx of shoppers and visitors.
Parking Regulations and Public Advisory
Designated parking zones have been established away from main market areas to reduce congestion. Authorities strongly advise:
- Using public transportation where possible
- Carpooling for family shopping trips
- Avoiding peak hours between 4 PM and 9 PM
- Following police instructions at diversion points
Enhanced Police Deployment and Monitoring
Additional traffic personnel will be stationed at all major intersections with real-time monitoring through CCTV networks. Quick response teams are ready to address any emergency situations or unexpected traffic build-ups.
"Our priority is to ensure that residents can celebrate Diwali without facing unnecessary traffic hassles," stated a senior police official. "We request full cooperation from the public in following the announced guidelines."
The traffic management plan will remain in effect throughout the Diwali week, with special emphasis on the main festival day and Bhai Dooj. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through local announcements and police social media channels for any last-minute changes.
