A residential area in Hisar experienced panic on Sunday evening after a significant fire erupted at the home of former Haryana health minister and BJP leader Dr Kamal Gupta. The blaze, believed to have originated in the drawing room, spread quickly, compelling family members to evacuate via a neighbor's terrace.
Incident Details
According to officials, the incident occurred around 4 pm when smoke and flames were observed emanating from the house. Dr Gupta, his wife, and his mother were inside at the time. As the fire intensified and moved toward the staircase, the primary exit route became blocked. Dr Gupta recounted that his wife and mother managed to save themselves by climbing onto the terrace of an adjacent house before being brought down safely. Locals promptly alerted the fire department upon noticing the blaze.
Firefighting Response
Two fire tenders arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control within approximately 25 minutes. A preliminary investigation suggests that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire, though the exact cause remains under determination. The drawing room was completely gutted, with furniture, electronic appliances, and other household items reduced to ashes. No casualties or injuries were reported. Police and Dial 112 teams also reached the spot and inspected the scene.
Family's Narrow Escape
Dr Kamal Gupta later stated that the drawing room was locked when the fire suddenly broke out, and the family's timely escape prevented a major tragedy. A prominent BJP leader from Hisar, Dr Gupta has represented the Hisar assembly constituency twice, winning elections in 2014 and 2019. He also served as Haryana's health minister.
The incident has raised concerns about fire safety in residential areas, with authorities urging residents to check electrical wiring and avoid overloading circuits. Further investigations are ongoing.
