Four killed in three road accidents in Hazaribag, IAF jawan among victims

Four people, including two members of a family and an Indian Air Force (IAF) jawan, were killed in three separate road accidents in Hazaribag district on Monday. The incidents have raised concerns over highway safety, overspeeding, and unregulated movement of heavy vehicles in the district.

Woman and son killed after car hits stationary truck

In the first accident, a woman and her son died after their car rammed into a stationary truck parked along the roadside within the limits of the Mufassil police station. The deceased were identified as Vidya Devi, 55, and her son Chandan Kumar, 29. Two others, Mahavir Prasad, 62, and Ankita Devi, 25, sustained critical injuries and were referred to Rims, Ranchi. Ankita is Chandan's wife, and Mahavir is his father. The officer-in-charge (OC) of Mufassil police station, Roshan Kumar, said, “Overspeeding or driver fatigue appears to be the likely cause. We have seized the vehicles and initiated an investigation.”

Scooter rider killed by unidentified vehicle on NH-522

In another accident, a 40-year-old man, Suresh Ravidas, died after an unidentified vehicle hit his scooter near Teliyabat on NH-522 within the limits of Tatijharia police station. A resident of Hurlung village, he was on his way to Hazaribag to buy medicines. Tatijharia OC Indrajit Kumar said the impact threw him off the scooter, killing him on the spot. “We have registered a case and are trying to identify the vehicle involved,” he said.

IAF jawan dies in head-on collision with bus

In the third incident, a 34-year-old IAF personnel, Deepak Kumar, died after his bike collided head-on with a bus near Mukundganj, about 4 km from Hazaribag city. The accident occurred around 6 am on Monday. He was on his way to meet a friend when a bus coming from Ranchi rammed into his bike. His elder brother Anand Kumar said, “He recently came home on leave and was supposed to return to Hyderabad next month.” The OC of Mufassil police station, Roshan Kumar, said, “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of negligent driving. The bus has been seized and an investigation has been initiated.”
