Funeral Procession Obstructed by Barricade in Diva

In a distressing incident in Thane's Diva area, a funeral procession was briefly halted after miscreants barricaded a private road, which serves as the only motorable access to a dense residential colony in Bedekar Nagar. Locals alleged that the road has been blocked repeatedly for illegal toll collection.

A viral video, reportedly shot and released by local activist Amol Kendre on Friday afternoon, shows the procession stopping midway as mourners carrying the corpse were unable to cross a locked barricade. Angry relatives gathered at the spot and demanded immediate passage. After waiting for nearly 30 minutes, they broke the lock and transported the body to a waiting ambulance for cremation, as seen in the video.

When contacted, the Mumbra police stated they were alerted to the incident but no official complaint was registered. In his video, Kendre claimed that anti-social elements have been blocking the road and charging money from helpless motorists to access colonies beyond, while repeated complaints to police and municipal officials have gone unheeded.

"The road is a vital passage for several housing clusters. It is unclear who owns the road, but how can these elements charge money? The corporation has failed to act despite repeated complaints," Kendre alleged.
