Gurgaon labourer beaten to death in drinking brawl

A 36-year-old labourer was allegedly beaten to death by fellow labourers following a heated argument during a drinking session in Gurgaon. The incident occurred in Saini Khera village, where the victim, Naresh Bairwa, a resident of Bawali village in Karauli district, Rajasthan, had been staying in a rented house for work. Police have not yet made any arrests in the case.

Incident Details

According to the complaint filed by the victim's brother, Amar Singh Bairwa, Naresh was consuming alcohol with three fellow labourers—Gahlod Kumar Bairwa, Vikram, and Hemraj—on April 29. A heated argument broke out, and the trio allegedly thrashed Naresh, causing his condition to deteriorate rapidly.

Medical Treatment and Death

A relative, Siyaram, rushed Naresh to the government hospital in Sector 10, Gurgaon. Due to the severity of his injuries, doctors referred him to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. The family later moved him to a government hospital in Karauli, and subsequently to SMS Hospital in Jaipur on May 5, where he succumbed to his injuries on May 6.

Police Response and Investigation

Police were informed and registered a case under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 3(5) (act done with common intent) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sector 40 police station. However, investigators have offered a different account. An investigator stated, "The victim resided in a rented flat with other labourers. They all drank together and cooked chicken. The victim then went to buy more liquor but fell on the road in an inebriated state and suffered a head injury. Our investigation so far indicates he was not assaulted by anyone, but we are exploring all possible angles."

Legal Proceedings

Further proceedings under Section 194 (investigating and reporting on unnatural deaths) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita have been initiated. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
