Haryana Declares Paid Holiday on May 10 for Local Polls

The Haryana government has declared a paid holiday on May 10 for all registered voters in areas where urban local body elections will be held. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi issued a notification confirming the decision.

Elections Scheduled

Polling will take place for mayoral and ward councillor positions in the municipal corporations of Ambala, Panchkula, and Sonipat. Additionally, elections will be held in the Rewari municipal council and the municipal committees of Sampla, Dharuhera, and Uklana.

Byelections in Vacant Wards

Byelections will also be conducted in six vacant wards. These include ward number 17 of the Tohana municipal council in Fatehabad, ward number 13 of the Jhajjar municipal council, ward number 11 of the Rajound municipal committee in Kaithal, ward number 8 of the Taraori municipal committee in Karnal, ward number 14 of the Kanina municipal committee in Mahendergarh, and ward number 9 of the Sadhaura municipal committee in Yamunanagar.

Paid Leave for Employees

Under Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, all employees who are registered voters in the above-mentioned areas will be granted paid leave. This applies to all Haryana government offices, boards, corporations, and educational institutions. Employees and workers in factories, shops, and private establishments located in Haryana who are registered voters in the concerned areas will also receive paid leave to cast their votes.
