Panaji: In a petition concerning the shortage of escrivaos at comunidades, the Bombay High Court directed the administrator of comunidade, south zone, to immediately depute a clerk/escrivao to the comunidade of Cortalim by April 27.
The High Court recorded the statement on behalf of the administrator's office on March 23, directing that an escrivao be deputed to Cortalim with a clear direction to deal with 21 bills, where payment is required on an urgent basis.
When the petition came up for hearing again on April 22, the petitioner Royson Edwin da Costa, represented by advocate Vivek Rodrigues, told the High Court that the escrivao allotted to Cortalim comunidade also officiates as escrivao in 19 other comunidades. Because of this, he has been unable to work in Cortalim for a single day since the order was passed.
On the assurance given, the High Court directed the comunidade of Cortalim to clear on urgent basis the pending work of the comunidade. The court also listed out 21 bills to be paid on urgent basis, some of which are pending since March 2025.
