Himachal to Table Land Policy for Forest-Encroaching Small Farmers

Himachal Pradesh Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi announced on Wednesday that a land policy aimed at regularising forest land occupied by small and marginal farmers will be presented to the state Cabinet for consideration and approval.

Cabinet Sub-Committee Meeting

Negi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee formed to examine the issue of regularising forest land under occupation by small and marginal farmers. Education Minister Rohit Thakur also attended the meeting. The committee was informed that a policy framework has been developed in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court.

Policy Details

After detailed deliberations, the committee decided to place the proposed policy before the state Cabinet. Once the Cabinet gives its approval, the policy will be forwarded to the Government of India for further necessary action. Negi stated that the initiative aims to provide relief to small and marginal farmers by addressing land occupation issues in a structured and legally compliant manner, aligning with the Supreme Court's directives.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary (Law) Rajeev Bali, Additional Secretary (Revenue) Anil Chauhan, and senior officials from the Forest Department.
