Indore Divisional Commissioner Seeks Report on IET Hostel Vandalism, Ragging Cases
Indore Commissioner Seeks Report on IET Hostel Vandalism

Indore: Divisional Commissioner Sudam Khade on Thursday requested a comprehensive report from the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), regarding the recent hostel vandalism case as well as previous incidents of ragging and misconduct reported at the institute. The administration has been directed to submit a detailed account within two days, covering every case and the disciplinary actions taken against the students involved.

Viral Video Sparks Action

The move comes after a viral video from the Ramanujan Boys Hostel at IET showed final-year students dancing in a semi-nude state and vandalizing hostel property during a farewell celebration. Chairs, tables, windowpanes, and even a plastic water tank were damaged during the late-night incident that occurred five days ago. The footage prompted immediate scrutiny from higher authorities.

Identification and Penalties

University authorities have so far identified 18 students involved in the vandalism, while efforts are underway to identify others seen in the footage. Acting on the recommendations of the disciplinary committee, the university has decided to impose a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of the 18 accused students. Additionally, final-year students involved in the incident have been barred from appearing in examinations until further orders. The university administration has also vacated the hostel rooms allotted to the identified students.
