Indore Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Industrial Water Pollution
Indore IMC Fines Units Over Rs 8 Lakh for Water Pollution

Indore Municipal Corporation Intensifies Crackdown on Industrial Water Pollution

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has significantly escalated its enforcement campaign targeting industrial units that discharge untreated and contaminated water into public drainage and sewer systems. Over the past two weeks, this aggressive drive has resulted in the imposition of cumulative fines surpassing Rs 8 lakh on numerous non-compliant facilities.

Recent Enforcement Actions and Penalties

On Sunday, dedicated IMC inspection teams conducted rigorous checks in Zone 17 and Zone 03, identifying several units guilty of directly releasing waste and wastewater into public drains. Additionally, these units were cited for the improper operation of their effluent treatment plants (ETPs), which are crucial for mitigating environmental harm.

In a notable enforcement action, Zonal Officer Narendra Kureel levied fines totaling Rs 1.40 lakh against four specific industrial establishments. The penalized units include Lalit Namkeen, Megha Polymer, Geetika Plastic, and Usha Organic. Each was found in violation of environmental regulations governing wastewater disposal.

Simultaneously, Zonal Officer Raj Thakur carried out inspections in Ward 57, where multiple units were fined an aggregate of Rs 40,000. These penalties were imposed for similar infractions, including the direct discharge of waste into sewer lines and the faulty operation of ETPs, highlighting a pattern of non-compliance across different industrial sectors.

Compliance Deadlines and Rectification Measures

Following the issuance of fines, the implicated industrial units have been granted a strict two-day deadline to rectify their waste management systems. This directive mandates immediate corrective actions to ensure proper treatment of effluent before release, aiming to prevent further pollution of Indore's public water infrastructure.

The IMC's intensified drive underscores a broader commitment to environmental stewardship and public health protection. By holding industrial operators accountable, the corporation seeks to curb the detrimental effects of water pollution, which can lead to clogged drains, environmental degradation, and health risks for residents.

This enforcement initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable industrial practices in Indore, encouraging businesses to adopt compliant wastewater management protocols. The substantial fines serve as a deterrent, signaling the municipal authority's resolve to enforce regulations rigorously and maintain the city's environmental integrity.
