Indore: The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has announced that it will now require high-rise commercial buildings, including shopping malls and corporate offices, to install separate pipelines for treated water. The reclaimed water must be used for non-potable purposes such as flushing, building maintenance, vehicle washing, and landscaping to conserve fresh water resources.
New Mandate for Commercial High-Rises
“All new commercial high-rise buildings will have to install a separate line for the supply of used water, which will be treated at their own recycling plants, for non-drinking purposes,” said IMC Commissioner Kshitij Singhal.
The mandate will be formally integrated into a comprehensive water policy currently being drafted. Once finalized, the policy will be presented to the Mayor-in-Council (MIC) for regulatory approval.
Focus on Water Conservation
The forthcoming water regulations will prioritize decentralized groundwater recharging, expanding roof rainwater harvesting networks, checking pipeline leakages, and maximizing the carrying capacity of local reservoirs.
This initiative aims to reduce the strain on fresh water supplies and promote sustainable water management in the city.
