Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) teams conducted a major operation on Tuesday, seizing 19 illegal booster pumps that were directly connected to the Narmada water supply lines. The action was taken across multiple zones in the city to curb unauthorized extraction of water.
Details of the Seizure
The crackdown targeted three main areas. In Zone 12 (Ward 66), eight water pumps were seized from the Koyala Bakhal area. Four pumps were confiscated from Naya Basera locality in Zone 9 (Ward 44). Additionally, six pumps were seized from Bajrangpura and Sugandha Nagar sectors under Zone 17 (Ward 18). All these pumps were illegally boosting water pressure from the main Narmada supply lines.
Penal Actions for Water Wastage
Commissioner Kshitij Singhal stated that the IMC also initiated penal actions against public water wastage and the creation of unsanitary conditions caused by allowing water to flow onto public roads. The teams penalized 61 individuals, recovering a cumulative fine of Rs 37,550.
This operation is part of the IMC's ongoing efforts to ensure equitable distribution of water and to prevent illegal practices that strain the city's water infrastructure. The seized pumps have been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to identify those responsible.
