Jabalpur Couple Killed in Hit-and-Run, Toddler Survives

Jabalpur: A tragic accident claimed the lives of a couple riding a motorcycle after a speeding pickup vehicle struck them late Wednesday night near Tilwara Bridge. Miraculously, their one-year-old daughter escaped without a single scratch.

Victims Identified

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Narayan alias Bunty Kevat (32) and his wife Shalini Kevat (30), residents of a village under Madhotal police station limits in Jabalpur. The couple was returning home with their infant daughter after visiting relatives in Dalpatpur when the accident occurred around 11 pm.

Details of the Accident

Police reported that a pickup vehicle, allegedly driven at high speed and in a rash manner, rammed into the motorcycle from behind on the bridge. The impact threw Bunty onto the road, causing severe head injuries, while Shalini was flung nearly 50 feet off the bridge.

Upon receiving information, police arrived at the spot and shifted Bunty to the medical college hospital, where he was declared dead during the initial examination. A rescue operation was launched to locate Shalini, whose body was later found near the riverbank below the bridge.

Child Found Safe

The couple's one-year-old daughter, who was with them on the motorcycle, was found completely safe with no visible injuries. She has been handed over to her relatives.

Investigation Underway

Police said the accused driver fled after abandoning the vehicle a short distance from the accident site. The pickup vehicle has been seized, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the driver. A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
