Jaipur Municipal Corporation Launches Major Crackdown on Banned Plastic
In a significant environmental enforcement operation, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) conducted a joint drive with the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board on Tuesday, resulting in the seizure of approximately 230 kilograms of banned single-use plastic and the imposition of fines totaling nearly Rs 1 lakh on traders found violating regulations.
Targeted Enforcement Against Factories and Shops
The coordinated action specifically targeted factories and retail establishments across Jaipur that were allegedly involved in the storage and sale of prohibited plastic items. Officials conducted thorough inspections of multiple premises, addressing violations immediately on-site during the enforcement drive.
"Despite a strict ban on the use, storage, and sale of single-use plastic, some traders continue to flout established norms," stated Additional Commissioner Praveen Kumar. He emphasized that "strict action will continue against violators" as part of the municipal corporation's ongoing environmental protection efforts.
Call for Public Cooperation and Future Enforcement
The Jaipur Municipal Corporation has issued a strong appeal to both residents and business operators throughout the city, urging them to:
- Completely cease using single-use plastic products
- Cooperate fully with environmental protection initiatives
- Adhere to existing regulations regarding prohibited materials
Officials have warned that enforcement measures will intensify in the coming days, with stricter actions planned against those who continue to disregard the plastic ban. This crackdown represents part of broader municipal efforts to reduce plastic pollution and promote sustainable practices in urban areas.
