A local court in Jind has sentenced two men to five years of rigorous imprisonment each after convicting them in an eight-year-old case involving the smuggling of poppy husk. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each convict, with additional imprisonment stipulated if the fine is not paid.
Case Details
According to a police spokesperson, the case dates back to March 28, 2018, when a team from CIA Staff Jind intercepted and arrested Balwan, a resident of Sisai village, and Neer, a resident of Sotha village. The arrest occurred near the Rajbaha bridge on the Budain-Kapro road during patrol and crime prevention duty. The police seized eight kilograms of poppy husk from their possession.
Legal Proceedings
A case under Sections 15/61/85 of the NDPS Act was registered at Uchana Kalan police station against the two accused. Based on the evidence presented, the court of Additional Sessions Judge Archana Yadav convicted both accused under Section 15(B) read with Section 29 of the NDPS Act.
Police Statement
The Superintendent of Police, Jind, stated that the campaign against drug traffickers would continue with full force and that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in narcotics-related crimes. The police also appealed to citizens to share information regarding drug trafficking or the sale of narcotic substances to help make society drug-free.
