Berhampur: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Kandhamal police on Tuesday dismantled a syndicate and apprehended 11 individuals, including the main supplier. The operation led to the seizure of over 22 kilograms of ganja and 7.75 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately Rs 3 lakh. Additionally, two motorcycles and seven mobile phones were confiscated.
Details of the Operation
According to police sources, a patrolling team spotted a group of 10 persons gathered near a cremation ground under the Phulbani Town police station limits. Upon verification, the contraband was recovered. The accused were allegedly planning to transport the drugs to other regions.
Superintendent of Police Ramendra Prasad stated, "During interrogation, the accused disclosed the identity of the supplier and alleged kingpin in Phulbani town, who was later arrested."
Background of the Accused
The arrested individuals hail from villages under the jurisdiction of Phulbani Town, Tikabali, and Gochhapada police stations. Authorities have launched a further investigation to trace the source of the drugs and identify the intended supply routes.

The SP emphasized that the drive against drug trafficking and storage in the district will be intensified. "We are committed to eradicating the drug menace from our society," he added.
