A National Lok Adalat held on Saturday at the Kanpur court premises resulted in the settlement or disposal of 2,44,068 cases and the recovery or provision of Rs 12,44,87,155. The event saw the resolution of a wide range of disputes, including motor accident claims, matrimonial matters, civil suits, and bank-related cases.

Key Achievements of the Lok Adalat

The tribunals within the lok adalat settled 96 motor accident claims out of approximately 300 identified cases. The principal court of matrimonial affairs disposed of seven cases, while the chief judicial magistrate handled around 38,297 cases. Judicial officials from Kanpur Nagar disposed of 81,987 cases and realized or provided a sum of Rs 7,97,92,712. Banks and telecom companies resolved 629 cases at the pre-litigation level, realizing a total of Rs 4,17,77,896.

Inauguration and Proceedings

District judge Anmol Pal inaugurated the lok adalat in the morning. During the session, criminal compoundable cases, matrimonial disputes, civil suits, motor accident claims, revenue cases, and arbitration matters—along with cases pending with banks and insurance companies—were resolved through conciliation and settlement at the pre-litigation stage, as stated by nodal officer and additional sessions judge Rashmi Singh.

Secretary of the district legal services authority, Abhinav Tiwari, confirmed that all judicial officials and office bearers of the Kanpur Bar association and the lawyers association were present. Proceedings for the disposal of pending stamp-related cases were also conducted on Saturday.

Stamp Duty Cases Resolved

Four significant cases were resolved under district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, involving a determined amount of Rs 84,40,874. These cases pertained to residential land and development matters, specifically from the Sadar and Bilhaur tehsil areas. The settlement amounts were finalized as follows:

  • Shiv Sai Dham Society: Rs 12,79,760
  • Purnima Dixit: Rs 43,55,914 (the largest settlement)
  • Divesh Developers: Rs 12,52,940
  • Madhav Infratech: Rs 15,52,260

In two cases from the Bilhaur tehsil area, the path for revenue recovery was cleared following the determination of stamp duty liabilities.
