Kanpur District Task Force Initiates Special Campaign to Eradicate Child Labor
In a significant move towards social welfare, the District Task Force in Kanpur, constituted under the Amended Rules 2016 of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986, convened a crucial meeting on Wednesday. The session was chaired by District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, where a pivotal decision was made to launch an intensive special campaign aimed at making Kanpur district completely free from child labor.
Uttar Pradesh's Ambitious Target and Kanpur's Strategic Plan
During the meeting, it was revealed that the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has set an ambitious statewide target to eliminate child labor by the year 2027. In alignment with this goal, Kanpur division has been assigned a specific deadline of December 2026 to achieve this objective. The District Task Force engaged in detailed discussions to formulate a robust strategy for effective action against child labor within the district.
Expanded Enforcement Network and Designated Inspectors
Assistant Labour Commissioner Ram Lakhan Patel provided key insights into the enforcement mechanism. To ensure comprehensive implementation of child labor elimination efforts, a wide range of officials have been designated as inspectors. This includes not only labor department personnel but also all sub-district magistrates, tehsildars, naib tehsildars, basic education officers, block education officers, block development officers, and assistant development officers. This expanded network is designed to enhance monitoring and enforcement capabilities across various administrative levels.
Formation of Special Teams and Campaign Timeline
District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh took proactive steps by forming ten specialized teams dedicated to executing effective action against child labor. These teams have been directed to conduct a focused special campaign from March 12 to March 25. During this period, they will inspect various establishments, including factories, workshops, and other workplaces, to identify instances of child labor. The progress and outcomes of this campaign will be thoroughly reviewed in a meeting scheduled for March 27.
Educational Rehabilitation and Re-enrollment Initiatives
In addition to identification and enforcement, the District Magistrate emphasized the importance of educational rehabilitation for rescued child laborers. He directed that a comprehensive list of identified child and adolescent laborers be provided to the education department. This step is crucial to ensure that these children receive proper educational support and integration into the schooling system.
Furthermore, under the Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana, which focuses on educating child laborers, the list of out-of-school children must be sent to the Basic Education Officer. This initiative aims to facilitate their re-enrollment in schools, providing them with opportunities for a brighter future through education.
The concerted efforts of the District Task Force, combined with the involvement of multiple departments and a clear timeline, underscore Kanpur's commitment to eradicating child labor and promoting child welfare in line with state and national objectives.
