Karnataka Minister Urges Centre to Raise Minimum Wage Under VB-G RAM G Act
Karnataka Minister Seeks Higher Wage Under VB-G RAM G Act

Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister Eshwar Khandre has called upon the central government to raise the minimum wage under the VB-G RAM G Act. The minister made this appeal ahead of a crucial meeting of state RDPR ministers scheduled for June 28 and 29 in New Delhi, where the implementation of the act will be discussed.

Demand for Higher Wages

Speaking to reporters, Khandre emphasized that the current minimum wage under the VB-G RAM G Act is insufficient to meet the rising cost of living. He argued that increasing the wage would provide much-needed relief to rural workers and enhance the effectiveness of the scheme.

The VB-G RAM G Act, aimed at promoting rural development and employment, has been a key initiative of the central government. However, state governments have raised concerns about its implementation, particularly regarding wage rates and fund allocation.

Meeting of State Ministers

The upcoming meeting in New Delhi will bring together RDPR ministers from all states to deliberate on the act's progress and challenges. Khandre said he would raise the wage issue during the meeting and seek a revision of the wage structure.

He also stressed the need for timely release of funds and better coordination between the centre and states to ensure the act's objectives are met. The minister expressed hope that the central government would consider the states' demands positively.

Background of VB-G RAM G Act

The VB-G RAM G Act was enacted to provide employment opportunities and improve rural infrastructure. It mandates a minimum wage for workers, which varies by state. Karnataka has been implementing the scheme but has faced challenges due to low wage rates and administrative hurdles.

Khandre's demand aligns with similar calls from other states, indicating a growing consensus on the need for wage revision. The outcome of the New Delhi meeting will be crucial for the future of the act and rural employment in India.
