The Kedarnath Temple, one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism, officially opened its doors to devotees on a recent auspicious day. The temple, located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, is part of the revered Char Dham Yatra circuit. Thousands of pilgrims gathered to witness the opening ceremony and offer their prayers.
PM Modi's Greetings and Appeal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm greetings to the devotees on this significant occasion. In a message shared on social media, he expressed his joy and urged the faithful to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at the temple premises. He emphasized the importance of preserving the sanctity of the shrine and the surrounding environment.
Significance of Kedarnath Temple
The Kedarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters above sea level in the Garhwal Himalayas. The temple remains closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall and reopens in April or May each year. The reopening is marked by a grand ceremony, including the installation of the idol and rituals performed by priests.
Cleanliness Campaign
The Prime Minister's appeal aligns with the government's ongoing Swachh Bharat Mission, which aims to promote cleanliness across the country. Devotees are encouraged to avoid littering and to use designated waste disposal facilities. The temple authorities have also implemented measures to ensure a clean and safe environment for all visitors.
Pilgrimage Experience
The Char Dham Yatra, which includes Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, attracts millions of pilgrims each year. The journey to Kedarnath involves a trek of about 16 kilometers from Gaurikund, though helicopter services are also available. The state government has made arrangements for accommodation, medical facilities, and security to ensure a smooth pilgrimage.
Devotees expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for his message and pledged to follow the cleanliness guidelines. Many shared their experiences on social media, highlighting the spiritual significance of the visit and the beauty of the Himalayan landscape.
